MEET JACQUELINE, YOUR DEDICATED, EXPERIENCED PAINTING TUTOR

With over 30 years of painting experience, Jacqueline brings a teaching style built on kindness, compassion, and genuine encouragement.

She treats every student equally, whatever their skill level walking in the door — there are no favourites in the room, rather a democratic shared space to learn and grow.

Jacqueline provides a clear framework for successful painting, one that gives students the structure and technique to build real skill, while still leaving plenty of room for their own personal style to come through.

Jac Teaching Blooms Figs

It’s this generous, student-first approach that empowers each student to find their own confidence — helping hundreds of painters, from complete beginners to seasoned artists, walk away with newfound belief in their own skills and abilities.

Jacqueline provides demonstrations throughout so you can preview the techniques before trying them yourself.

Jacqueline holds over 100 five-star Google reviews and has been recognised among many nominated awards, including the AI Global Excellence Awards and Acquisition International’s Global 100.

‘The best rewards from teaching’, says Jacqueline, ‘are the results of my beautiful students and how much they learn.’

Living Locally

Stay in renovated stone villas with beautiful walls that have stories to tell, built from the 1860s — the very era of French Impressionism.

In this peaceful hamlet, you’re as likely to see a herd of Charolais cows being shepherded to a new field as you are to see a car pass through the village. This is a special place where time has stood still.

Beautiful walks wind along Creusoise pathways between fields of wheat, edged with oak, hazelnut, and chestnut trees.

Nature is abundant here — rose blossoms grow unchecked, and peonies peep between the ancient cast-iron gates of old farmhouses. Sheep graze beside magnificent stone barns.

Enjoy Living Like a Local — And Your Own Room!

  • Max 7 students staying in a peaceful hamlet of traditional French stone, shuttered villas, three hours south of Paris — near where Monet painted his Confluence of the Creuse River series
  • Stay in authentic local stone villas, with your own room and shared bathrooms
  • Aperitifs and wine at evening meals are supplied at French Art School
  • Live like a local — take country walks between fields and hedgerows, or relax by the fireplace with an art book when you’re not whipping up your masterpieces
  • Indulge in delicious French and international-style meals. We can cater to gluten-free, vegetarian, and some slight variations, but unfortunately cannot accommodate severe allergies
  • Paint in my dedicated studio space, known as the Ballroom Studio, where the locals used to dance

The Creuse and Indre — Between the Brushstrokes

Built into our tours is time to rest between painting, taking in the stunning regions of the Indre and the Creuse — a peaceful landscape of undulating, lush greenery that seems to breathe at its own gentle pace.

This is all included with our own driver for the day.

On Saturdays, we wander the market at La Châtre, where cheesemakers and seafood merchants rub shoulders with stalls piled high with the season’s vegetable produce — the town square alive with local colour and chatter.

We browse a variety of brocantes, treasure-hunting through everything from handwritten letters penned in the 1860s to delicate figurines and vintage linen sheets — each piece carrying its own small history. Then it’s on to the Prieuré d’Orsan at Maisonnais, where ancient and revitalised garden rooms and mazes unfold along hedged pathways, and the Abbaye Lac Noir, a beautiful monastery with a serene garden cradled within its cloisters.

On another day we take lunch in La Celle-Dunoise, one of France’s most beautiful villages, right on the river — a site where Monet himself once set up his easel to paint the Creuse.

Jo B from New New Jersey, USA was mostly self taught before taking Blooms France. She learned how to blend her paint, which brushes to use where, all about tone, colour mixing, and how to finesse your painting as well as not getting slowed down by the details which completely changes what she was able to achieve. She produced four stunning paintings.

My teaching has helped thousands of newbies and artists to master & enjoy painting.
As it’s an art immersion we will be painting and learning and producing paintings.

Blooms paintings collection by one of my lovely Aussie students at Blooms France. Fab job!

Paint alongside me in the Ballroom Studio at L’Hirondelle, my characterful charming French villa, once an auberge or Inn, loved by students of my French Art School since 2016. It is homely in feel and comfortable.

The Weekend Australian had a live- in experience with us for an entire product experience and reviewed it accordingly in THE WEEKEND AUSTRALIAN FEB 3-4, 2018, in a double page full colour spread feature. The writer Christine McCabe regularly reviews hotels and accommodations and experiences in conjunction with the editor. Here is what they wrote about the French Art School accommodation experience;

EXCERPT FROM THE WEEKEND AUSTRALIAN ARTICLE

“… It’s almost dark when we arrive at Jac’s little house L’Hirondelle (The Swallow). Candles are lit, jazz plays quietly … Jac’ s lovely French neighbour Anne has filled every room with flowers and is on hand to pop the bubbles. We love her already.

The house is charming, cleverly restored using more dash than cash, with paintings on every wall and artists unerring eye for flea market finds.

Downstairs there’s a rustic kitchen and large atelier (once the ballroom in this former auberge, or inn) where we will have our painting lessons, and upstairs are five large bedrooms.

Some members of the group are staying down the hill in Jac’s other house, La Tonnellerie ( the Copperage) , with its magical barn and wild orchard. My bedroom has an ancient sloping floor of wide boards, large armoire and very comfy bed dressed with best linen. We are sharing bathrooms but these are large and feminine ….As we are modern day Monets there is WIFI.

The houses are quirky and characterful and there are lots of paintings about.

The painting studio starts off empty awaiting our efforts and within days starts to fill with our gorgeous Blooms paintings.

Life at French Art School

Most of our meals are prepared in house or provided as picnics when touring. These are relaxing times to engage with the other participants.

This is an art immersion with time to go more deeply into your painting experience. How much painting you do is up to you. Do as little or as much as you like.

Guided Blooms Painting projects are offered and there is also time to choose your own Blooms painting projects from your own photos taken during our sessions.

Participants have their own rooms and join me to paint each day. We enjoy long table dining together. Wine and aperitifs are supplied in the evenings. There’s time to take country walks, relax by the fire, look at art books and chat with the other students.

What size are the canvases? How many paintings do we create? How do we get them home?

Canvases are portable mid-size canvases which are packed safely with handy straps to make travelling with them comfortable.

We pack the paintings together.  You can comfortably travel with them or post them after the tour if you don’t want to travel with them.

Generally students are able to create two canvases at approximately 40 x 50cm and 2 at a larger size for example 60 x80cm creating a total of 4 finished paintings.

It’s up to the student if they prefer to keep the canvases at the same smaller size in which case they may get more paintings completed or they may prefer to go to the larger size.

European sizes vary to English, USA and Australian sizes. A variety of mid to large sizes are provided. All sizes are selected with travel and transporting the paintings in mind.

Now let’s take a look at the wonderful bonuses that come with the BLOOMS FRANCE art immersion in more detail

FAQ’s

What spending money will I need?

It’s nice to have some funds available for any shopping you’d like to do in Paris, and to cover costs of the Giverny day and your hotel in Paris for the bonus time and meals in Paris. The tour starts from the Gare D’Austerlitz when we take the train to French Art School on June 4, 2027.

Where is the workshop held?

The workshop is held at French Art School, La Foret du Temple in the Creuse region of the Limousin. It’s about 3 hours from Paris by the time you take the train for two hours, and a further 50 minute drive with our chauffeur who will collect us from the train station at Chateauroux to take us to the very pretty La Foret du Temple.

What's the area like?

It’s a peaceful rural area of undulating hills and forested areas of oak, hazelnuts and chestnuts.

There are lots of charming walks to take locally and you will have time to relax as well. The fields are bordered by hedge rows. There are the creamy Charolais cows and the honey tan coloured Limousin cattle.

Locally there are wild deer, hedgehogs, falcons, owls, squirrels, and more and the local buildings are made from stone and oak, most with typical French shutters, barns and adjoining fields. There are lots of wildflowers and wild growing produce.

What is the accommodation like?

There are typical French villas typical to the area made from stone, granite, and oak and built around the 1860’s -1890’s. Over the years L’Hirondelle was an auberge, then a home to two families before becoming French Art School. There is a large room we call the Ball Room studio where we paint which was once for dancing and music! There is the original bakers oven in the adjoining barn where the bread for the village was once made. It still works but takes two days to heat up!

La Tonnellerie is also a two story stone villa with shutters and has a large lawn area opening to an apple orchard. The properties have been renovated. Both properties are nearby each other so a short walk. Both are filled with art, have comfy beds and fireplaces.

Students will have their own private room and access to shared bathrooms.

I have renovated them to suit the needs of my students who like character AND comfort! The staff stay at Les Pivoines, an old farmhouse that I am renovating that has lots of barns and outhouses, which is also a few minutes walk or Jac sometimes also stays at La Tonnellerie too.

Are art supplies included?

Yes your art supplies are included. As well as packaging materials. If you want to post your paintings home, you will need to go to the post office after the tour as we haven’t got the time to do that during the tour.

Will I get time off?

Knowing my students they like to paint as much as possible. Knowing my students I know they also need rest time! So, I have built in some rest time, walks in the charming hamlet, lounge time and enjoy our meal times, plus a relaxing day tour. The work we do is very freed up and not intensely detailed so it’s productive and fun. We take the time to enjoy good meals. I encourage free time for walks or lazing with a good art book from my art library.

Many students come along alone meeting other students and making great friends. There is lots of time for chatting and getting to know each other. I often have students from the USA, CANADA, SPAIN, GERMANY AND THE UK as well as AUSTRALIA and NEW ZEALAND.

Priory Dorsan Monastery Garden French Art School Visit

How can I keep in contact with home?

You can call landlines in Australia for free from the L’Hirondelle phone. Both villas have free fibre optic wifi as of June 2024.

How do I travel with my paintings?

We will be packing the paintings together in an early evening session before our last dinner together. All packaging supplies supplied to ensure your paintings get home safely. We do this together and turn the place into a packing centre!

Sue from Canada demonstrates the packed packings with straps!

How do I get back to Paris?

The chauffeur will collect everyone at the same time in the minibus and take clients to Chateauroux to meet our approx. 8.14  am train to Paris arriving approx. 10.22 am to Gare D’Austerlitz Paris,  all being well with train services.

However please wait for confirmation closer to the time for the exact timing because SNCF TRAIN SCHEDULES do change, and sometimes they work on the line which can disrupt usual train schedules and can lead to less seats available and  taking several trains from a  different town, and arriving much later in Paris.

Please allow more time than you need if making a connection to fly out of Paris i.e. fly out in the evening or consider staying a night in Paris before flying out.

Check which airport you are leaving from also as there are several Paris airports including Orly and Charles de Gaulle.

Sometimes we have to work with changes from SNCF. Unfortunately in the event of disruptive changes we cannot provide a private driver to Paris. We will find the best train ticket solution for the departure day. We are not responsible for missed flights. ( It hasn’t happened yet!)

All participants are required to fill out their client details as soon as they book in so we can book tickets as soon as we have our group to confirm we get our chosen train times.

Details will be confirmed as soon as possible which will be when we have all of the group details.

From Paris, you can make your own way to where you are going next. If you would like some ideas just ask. I can recommend my fave Paris hotel that all my students have loved. There’s lots to do and see in Paris and I have a list of recommendations for Blooms France students you are welcome to.

To get to the airport Charles de Gaulle it’s about 50 minutes by taxi from the train station but it can take half an hour or more to get a taxi if there is a Q. It’s been efficient to get taxis usually but a delay can sometimes happen and it’s necessary to allow for it if you are dependant on getting to the airport at a certain time.

THEREFORE Please allow more time than you need if making a connection to fly out of Paris i.e. fly out in the evening or consider staying a night in Paris before flying out.

What if I get a cold? What if I get sick? What’s the protocol on tour?

Should you pick up a bug in your travels and feel under par, or have a cold or flu, we encourage you to rest and relax  till feeling well enough to participate. Each person has their own room or you can relax by the fireplace. We will offer you fluids or appropriate dietary requirements as well as TLC of course!

No need to worry about missing out because I provide additional BLOOMS training as a gift in the online bonus pack. You can catch up from home.

Don’t worry! We understand no one can help it! Staff also follow these guidelines to keep our clients safe from a cold that can marr their tour time.

Please use hand sanitisers provided after handling tissues or wash hands immediately after.

Thanks so much in advance for your respect to manage any contagious illness with appropriate care.

If you need to go see a doctor or go top the pharmacy a 10 minutes drive away we can arrange our tour freelance assistant to see if she can get you an appointment or take you to the tele health doctor, an online service from the pharmacy in the next town and assist with getting recommended medication. She speaks fluent French.

For hospital visits we may require professional drivers able to respond to your health issue  such as the fire brigade (which they use instead of ambulances!!!)  and you will need to have your client form filled out with your insurance policy number and all details so we can assist your entry to a hospital by supplying your details to the medical team promptly.

Cat, short for Catherine, is a delightful helper who comes in to assist if someone is having a health issue.  It means the tour and workshop time don’t have to come to a grinding halt. Her time will be at your expense which you can claim from your travel insurance. The feedback we get is that she is WONDERFUL , attentive, solution based thoughtful and very kind.
